Charles has
practiced construction law since his call to the bar
in 1987 and has represented clients at all levels of
the construction pyramid, including mortgagees, sureties,
owners, general contractors and subcontractors. Since
1993 he has practiced almost exclusively in the area
of construction law.
Charles obtained his LL.B. from the
University of Toronto in 1985 after
having completed a Master's degree in History. He also
has an Honours B.A. from the University of Winnipeg.
Charles is an executive member of the Construction
Law section of the Ontario Bar Association. He is also
a member of the Advocates Society and the Canadian Bar
Association.
Charles is also active as a member of the Toronto
Construction Associates, and as an associate
member of the Mechanical Contractors Association of
Toronto, and of the Electrical Contractors Association
of both Toronto and Ontario.
Charles has published various articles and case comments
on construction law in the Construction Law Reports
and in such journals as Construction Law Letter (Butterworths)
and Legal Update. He also frequently lectures on construction
topics, including construction liens, bonds, trusts
and contract administration.
