Duncan Glaholt has practiced in the area of construction
law, construction claims, insurance and surety bond
litigation since his call to the Bar of Ontario in 1979.
In addition to his practice as an advocate, Duncan sits
as a private mediator, arbitrator and conciliator of
construction industry disputes. He is a member of the
Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
Duncan is a co-author of the annually published Annotated
Construction Lien Act , now in its 13th edition
(Carswell, 2008). He is also a co-author of Halsbury’s
Laws of Canada’s Construction
title (Lexis-Nexis, 2008). He has authored Conduct
of a Lien Action, now in its 3rd edition (Carswell,
2008) written for both the novice and experienced solicitor
in construction law and Construction Trusts
(1998, Carswell), Canada's first and only text on this
remedy.
Duncan is also a co-author of Bristow, Glaholt, Reynolds
and Wise on Construction, Builders’ and
Mechanics’ Liens in Canada, 7th edition
(Carswell, 2005).
In addition to these publishing activities, he chairs
a major Ontario community hospital and farms 50 acres
in Western Ontario. Duncan is a Founding Fellow and
Past President of the Canadian College of Construction
Lawyers. Duncan has been listed by The
Canadian Legal LEXPERT Directory as a leading
practitioner in the Construction Law area who is "most
frequently recommended" to LEXPERT's editors, and
as one of the LEXPERT/American Lawyer Media’s
"Leading 500 Lawyers in Canada" in
the field of Construction Law in each year of that listing.
Duncan is a frequent speaker at professional and industry
conferences. He is certified by the Law Society of Upper
Canada as a Specialist in Construction Law.
