Markus has
been our firm’s legal researcher since 1997. He
provides research assistance to our lawyers when our
clients present us with more novel or complex problems.
Markus is co-author, with Duncan Glaholt, of Halsbury’s
Laws of Canada, Construction (Lexis-Nexis,
2008). He has also co-authored numerous published articles
and presentations with Duncan and has provided the primary
research and front-line editing for Duncan’s other
books: Construction, Builders’ and Mechanics’
Liens in Canada, 7th edition (Carswell, 2005),
Conduct of a Lien Action, 4th edition (Carswell,
2009), Annotated Ontario Construction Lien Act,
14th edition (Carswell, 2009) and Construction Trusts
(Carswell, 1998).
After graduating from law school at Ruhr-Universität
Bochum in Germany in 1994, where he worked as a research
associate at the Institute for International Law of
Peace and Armed Conflict, Markus received a Master of
Laws (LL.M.) from Osgoode Hall Law School in Toronto
in 1997. Markus holds an Academy Certificate from the
Hague Academy of International Law, Netherlands (1992).
