History

The firm was founded as Glaholt & Tamblyn in 1988 by Duncan Glaholt as a founding partner, joined by Peter-Paul Du Vernet and Lawlor Rochester as counsel. Current partner John Margie also joined the firm during its founding years. In 1995 the firm continued as Glaholt & Associates, with legal researcher Markus Rotterdam and current managing partner Brendan Bowles added to the firm during that period.

In 2002 a new partnership, Glaholt LLP, was formed. John Margie became the firm's managing partner at that time and led the firm for the next decade. Since establishing Glaholt LLP we have continued to grow: Keith Bannon and Andrea Lee became partners, Charles Powell, Michael Valo, Adam Brody and Damien McCotter became associates, and in February, 2012 Harvey Kirsh joined as counsel.

In December 2012, partner Charles Wiebe was appointed a Case Management Master of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, after having practiced with Glaholt LLP for 16 years.

Glaholt LLP continues to be a leader in construction law, both in Canada and internationally. We pride ourselves on being technologically adept and able to handle the most difficult and complex of construction law files. Both Duncan Glaholt and Harvey Kirsh have published extensively on construction law and ADR topics, and both are identified by Lexpert as most frequently practitioners in construction law, with Glaholt LLP identified by Lexpert as a consistently recommended firm.

Duncan Glaholt, Harvey Kirsh and Brendan Bowles are certified as specialists in construction law by the Law Society of Upper Canada. Peter-Paul Du Vernet is certified as a specialist in Civil Litigation.

Many firm members are frequent writers and speakers on construction law topics both within the legal profession and the construction industry. We serve clients from all sectors of the industry, and respect referrals from other lawyers arising from conflict or where a high level of construction law expertise is required.
