Bio
John Paul is a Partner at Glaholt Bowles LLP in Toronto, Ontario, with significant experience representing both Plaintiffs and Defendants in a wide range of complex construction related disputes.
John Paul advises clients with respect to all manner of project delivery methods including design-build, design-bid-build, and Public Private Partnerships (P3), and has extensive experience with claims for disruption, delay, negligence, and deficiencies.
John Paul has appeared before the Superior Court, the Commercial Court, the Divisional Court, the Court of Appeal, and various administrative tribunals including the Ontario Labour Relations Board and the Real Estate Council of Ontario.
John Paul is also teaches construction law as part of Osgoode’s Professional LLM in Business Law program, has acted as an instructor for RICS/ADRIC’s National Adjudication Program, and is on the Board of Directors for BuildingSMART Canada.

- Acted for contractor in claims related to P3 hospital project
- Acted for a developer in claims for negligence and breach of contract related to faulty/defective plumbing installed in high-rise residential building
- Acted for a developer in claims for negligence and breach of contract related to building envelope design and construction
- Represented the Lead Designer in multimillion-dollar arbitration related to, among other things, design scope, design issues, and project delay on a regional infrastructure project
- Represented owners and contractors in contract terminations
- Represented various design professionals, general contractors, and sub-contractors in receivership and CCAA proceedings before the Toronto Commercial Court
- Represented both Plaintiffs and Defendants with respect to derivative actions and oppression remedy claims under Ontario's Business Corporations Act
- Represented both Plaintiffs and Defendants at motions for summary judgment, motions for Certificates of Pending Litigation, and motions seeking injunctive relief
- Represented Defendants in multimillion-dollar action related to the breach of a partnership agreement and "Right of First Refusal Clause"
- Acted against a condominium corporation for breach of a contract related to a shared services agreement
- Acted for several Plaintiffs in breach of contract matters related breaches of Agreements of Purchase and Sale of land
- Represented clients before various administrative tribunals including the Real Estate Counsel of Ontario and the Ontario Labour Relations Board
